Biography
David is an avid composer and pianist of contemporary music and has premiered many new compositions for chamber music and solo piano throughout the East Coast. David has been awarded several prestigious scholarships and awards such as: The Rothschild Scholarship, The Glass Scholarship, Lee Mitchell Endowed Memorial Scholarship and the Ada Arens Morawetz Memorial Award in Composition. He received an Honorable Mention for Miniatures for piano trio in the CLEFWORKS composition competition in 2007, as well one first place in the Churchill Scholarship Competition for Piano at the Boston Conservatory in 2000. David was recently awarded a Peabody Development grant to participate in a concert series that will perform in Baltimore and NYC with the ensemble REDSHIFT.
In October of 07’ Jeffrey Weisner commissioned David to write a Double Bass Quartet that was premiered at Peabody Conservatory in April of 2008. David collaborated with the Walters Art Museum on a project that added originally composed music and lighting effects to the art work of Gustav Courbet. David composed the music for the Spring section of the Walters Art Museum exhibit. A CD of his piece along with the other selected composers was released in 2006 under the title “Courbet and the Modern Landscape from the Walters Art Museum.” David’s orchestra piece Oscha was recorded by ERMMEDIA with Robert Ian Winston conducting the Kiev Philharmonic. The CD was released in 2007, under the title “Masterworks of the New Era,” volume 10.
David starting playing piano at the age of four and went on to study piano, duo piano and jazz saxophone at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Program. He later attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, Longy School of Music, and Boston Conservatory. He is currently pursuing a MM degree at Peabody Institute of the John’s Hopkins University, in composition. David studied piano with Dr. Sr. Anita Marchessaullt, Seth Kimmelmann, Ludmilla Lifson, Clifton Mathews, and Dr. Ernie Ragogini. David has studied composition with Yakov Gubabov, Christopher Theofanidis and is currently studying with Michael Hersch.
